What are the potential issues I might face when making a border run to Malaysia after an overstay in Thailand?

Good morning. I have been waiting for documents from the US for months so that I can marry. I came in to Thailand with what I thought was a 90, which turns out to be 60 with 30 day extension option, so I had an over stay of 11 days. I went to Samui and got my extension and the stamped me with an overstay and I paid the fine. I’ve been coming here for 3 years and stay extensively. I’ve never over stayed. My papers are finally here and I have an appointment at the US embassy on the 25 of July. We will marry on the 26th.

But, I must make a boarder run to Malaysia the 12th or I’ll be expired again. I have only made one border run in 3 years and it was in January. It seems they are really cracking down. Does any one see potential problems with entry?

Thank so much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about making a border run to Malaysia to avoid overstaying their visa in Thailand, following an earlier overstay of 11 days. They have an appointment to marry after obtaining necessary documents from the US. Comments suggest being cautious about entry due to the previous overstay and recommend having relevant documentation ready for inspection, including proof of funds, an outgoing ticket, and accommodation details. Additionally, there are concerns about the legality and timing of their marriage plans.

nope, you can border bounce for a 30 day visa exempt entry TWO times in a calendar year (Jan - 1 Dec 31).

Depending on the border you decide to bounce at you could be asked to show proof of funds (20K baht or the equivalent in CASH).

Good Luck..

Your permission to marry from the US embassy will need to be translated and taken to the Thai foreign ministry. If that is what your appointment on the 25th is for, you have no chance of marrying on the 26th if it is a legal marriage, not a village marriage. A village marriage will not get you a visa and is not binding, it is really just a good party.

Overstay stamps are never a good thing. Make sure you have an outgoing plane ticket , proof of accommodations and 20,000 baht to show if asked.
