Check the small print on your policy. Two things to watch for: period of cover and whether or not a return ticket is needed before you travel.

 It’s a matter of chance. Mine has been checked twice this year, once in Christchurch, New Zealand, and again last week in LAX.

How can travelers manage return ticket changes when using a 60-day visa exemption in Thailand?

You only need to change it once. When you apply for the extra 30 days, no proof of exit is requested. So you only need it on your return.

Technically it’s a requirement. I’ve never had it checked at immigration but I know of cases where this has happened. But airlines often check. I flew out of LAX last Tuesday and the airline asked to see my exit ticket.

 Checking in online doesn’t change anything. You still have to go to the checkin desk so they can check your passport and any visa requirements.
