best to start by getting non-O before arriving because they'll need to set up a bank account. IF they plan to stay on a retirement basis.

I don't think you need the tests. I think most just sign you off on the form. Ask again on here for others solution to the medical form.

I know you can open an account with a non-OA. But it's insurance linked. So the visa is valid to insurance date.

Get the non-O. Go open a bank account asap once you arrive. Might need to check what paperwork they want. If you have a Thai friend can go with you that helps. The point us with Non-O you'd need to deposit 800,000 tbt to get the one year extension. If that's the time you'd need. The non-OA doesn't need the money in thailand. So it may suit you. I'm so sorry to hear of your brother's death. What a terrible time for you.

there's no difficulties opening an account when on a non-O. The non-OA doesn't require a bank account but is linked in date to the insurance. Which can be costly and not very good.
Lynnette *******
That's weird. You've got the 800k so just get the non-O. The O-A isn't what you need.

nothing to do with extension or whether you've been asked. The question was 'is it a requirement'. Yes, it is. But it's rarely ever asked for.
Lynnette *******
Think that's ok. I've never been asked but always have that amount or more with me for the start of my trip.

it is simple, you get the visa before arriving. Open bank account. Get extension based on retirement for 12 minths
