"in our city" is the problem..., besides that Thai banking is totally insane and backwards...! Go to Bangkok, BKK bank headoffice or the one between Asoke and Nana on Sukhumvit..., which did the trick for me. In the province they won't open it. That said, Bangkok, BKK is the shittiest banking experience ever and I am cursing the retards every time I have to deal with them...!
"sounds like you're having anger management issues." Yeah baby, totally ! People talking BS make me really angry. I see your good intentions, but obviously this is your first time experience and you have no idea what you are talking about. Knowing myself at least half a dozen Thai embassies..., I can assure you, I've never heard about such an insane shit show and 2 weeks waiting time.... LOL ! So the value of your post is actually a warning: AVOID THIS SHITTY EMBASSY AT ALL COST ! :-)
Waiting 2 weeks for this shit show and calling it: "smooth and straightforward" ??? Are you insane ? In Cambodia you give your passport to a travel agent with 5 USD and get it back in 4 days..., you don't even go to the embassy ! In Vientiane you submit your passport and pick it up with the visa the next day..., etc... You described the most stupid, complicated and utterly idiotic and unnecessary BS circus and are praising it ???
What a complete insane crap....! For the questionable privilege to stay just 30 days longer in the land of stupidity and greed...! Fuck that, enjoy a month, cross the border into Lao, turn around and re-immigrate...! All free and quick, show the fucking Thai bureaucrats the finger! BTW: from August 15 on Vietnam will offer 3 months multiple entry visas....! Bye bye land of morons, good morning Vietnam ! 🙂
Keep in mind that Thai Banking is the most retarded worldwide....! I am cursing the BKK morons each time I have to deal with them and opening and then closing a fixed account is a very time consuming and utterly idiotic bureaucratic nightmare....! Back in Europe I do it in my pajamas online in less than 2 minutes....! Bottom line: the difference in interest rates is zero point a little bit, minus taxes..., so not really worth it !
" you can’t access funds for x months." This is NOT TRUE for a fixed account / term deposit ! It is accessible at any time during the contract, you just loose the interest if you cancel.
"OR you come to Thailand as a tourist, open a bank account (can be difficult as a tourist)" I would call it impossible..., at least you need some kind of confirmation from your embassy ! I was recently denied to make a fixed deposit at BKK bank with some of my money, since you open for that a new account and I am now just on a tourist visa here. That is despite me having an account with BKK bank since over 15 years! Ridiculous !!!
Remember it's only 2 times LAND border visa run/bounce per calendar year. So if you have only 1 so far it looks legit but then no more before 1st of Jan. 2024
like 1850 or something...? But for example in Pattaya you loose like 2 days on top of that queuing at immigration and organizing insane paperwork ! At least this happened to a friend of mine back in January, might be bit more quiet now. So e-visa is certainly much more convenient.
