I think as long as you don't stay more than 50% of the time in Thailand, you won't have issues. If you actually work in the mines outside of Thailand and come spend your vacations in Thailand, that's being a genuine tourist.

People who get troubles getting in are usually inside of Thailand way more than outside. Like staying in Thailand 60 days then out for a few days, then in Thailand again 60 days etc. That's a very different ratio than yours

if you can't get a residence certificate. At least in Bangkok it's not possible to get without an agent if you didn't file a 90 days report

Side question : is there a way to see if that visa is still valid ? I've heard that if one enters on visa exempt while having a visa granted, the visa gets void ? Or maybe I get things confused ?

if you're speaking about the 1 year multi entry non-o, that visa has a validity of 1 year, and each entry gives 90 days of stay. That means during the validity period of the visa, you are able to enter Thailand with it as many times as you want, but stay no more than 90 days at a time.

Basically it means you have to exit/re-enter Thailand every 3 months.

If you re-enter Thailand juste before the visa expiration date, you will be stamped in for 90 days again, so that means you would be able to "be here" for 15 months. Then when those last 90 days are about to end, you can still apply for a family visit extension from the immigration office inside of Thailand, to get an additional 60 days. That means that visa would allow you to stay in Thailand basically 17 months if you time it right.

yes each entry would give him 90 days, and he would have to go out before that time, then come back to get 90 days again

He can go to savannakhet to apply for the 1 year multi entry non-o based on marriage. It costs 5000 baht (+entry into Laos), and there is no financial requirements. With that visa he can enter Thailand as many times as he wants during 1 year, and each entry gives him 90 days of stay. That means he can stay around 15 months in Thailand with that visa, without visiting immigration ever. It's not really what you asked, but it's an option that not everyone knows about

Did the embassy require the presence of your spouse ?

If you don't mind paying a bit extra, you can use fatboy in Bangkok, or TikTok services or mots in Pattaya. You can renew your license with their help in less than a week. There are probably other agencies that I don't know of as well. Definitely possible without having done a 90 days report
