Normally you’re allowed to get a 60 days tourist visa with an onward ticket within 90 days, but this is a bit embassy dependent. And normally no questions at the immigration, unless they start questioning you for another reason regarding your previous travel history to Thailand.
The thai immigration has decided that foreigners need 65K baht a month in a year to support themselves. For the first year extension of stay you don’t have time to prove this for a year, so you’ll need to prove the whole year at once. (65K x 12 = 780K —> 800K). For the second year you’ll have time to prove 65k a month for twelve consecutive months and the money in your bank is free to use.
But Canadians don’t have to tie up and money or show proof of income in any other ways than an affidavit letter from your embassy confirming your income.
Ha has to wait three months after the extension is issued, then he can use up to 400K, but he needs to top up again two months prior to his next extension.
