Can I arrive in Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa with an onward journey ticket for a flight 90 days away because I plan to get a visa extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
It is generally possible to obtain a 60-day tourist visa for Thailand with an onward journey ticket for a flight scheduled 90 days after arrival. Although requirements may vary by embassy, many embassies recognize the potential for a visa extension. It is advisable to confirm with the airline regarding any proof of onward travel requirement. Once in Thailand, you can request a 30-day extension, further relieving concerns about departure timing.

Haven't had any issues getting a tourist visa issued with a return ticket close to the 90 days. From UK

Regardless of what you have been told... ASK YOUR AIRLINE...IF THEY REQUIRE A TICKET DEPARTING THAILAND WITHIN 60 OR 90 DAYS OF ARRIVAL.
It depends on the embassy at which you apply for your visa. Many do recognize that with the possibility to extend to 90, that's the appropriate amount of time to require onward travel within. There is no official requirement for proof of onward travel beyond that point, so if the embassy approves the visa, you should be ok.

Normally you’re allowed to get a 60 days tourist visa with an onward ticket within 90 days, but this is a bit embassy dependent. And normally no questions at the immigration, unless they start questioning you for another reason regarding your previous travel history to Thailand.
thanks. First time for 25 years for my wife, although I’ve been back many times on a business visa. We’re retired and I don’t think we look like the typical overstay types.

The real question is:
Can you buy the single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in your country before you wing your way here showing onward travel in 90 days rather than the number of days you'll get stamped in for when you arrive here on that visa 😮
IF you can get the tourist visa application approved with onward travel 90 days out you most likely won't be asked for onward travel at all when you stamp in. 😉 BUT even if you were the officers at passport control know you can get a 30 day extension
. Pity I hadn’t thought of that before I left Australia. I already have my Thai TR 60 day e-visa. I’m in Indonesia another 6 weeks or so. I’d like to know my exit date from Thailand so I can book an Airbnb in my next destination (backtracking to Malaysia).
well if you already have your eVisa approved it's valid for 3 months from the date they issued it <- meaning you have that long to ENTER thailand on it and get stamped in for 60 days
Just figure 89 days from the date you're going to enter thailand as the exit date (59+30) and you'll be safe
OR
Just wait until you get here, get the 30 day extension and then book the next leg of your stay
