sunrise is beautiful with a perfect restaurant but if you walk to the left, as you face the shoreline, along the beach where you arrive you will find a footpath that leads to a tiny quiet beach with one little bar.

I think Koh Lanta is much more relaxing that Koh Samui but it is a much smaller island.

Is it acceptable to make a flight reservation to Vietnam after spending 20 days in Thailand if I haven't received my visa yet?

Buy an onward ticket (look it up on internet) to get you on the plane then in Thailand you can extend your voa.

My hotel had been told that the TM30 is no longer needed since Covid. They called the immigration office to confirm this but I took a photo of our booking just in case. The hotel also gave a business card and said if there's any problems get immigration to call.

just used one and it was perfect. We paid 30 Canadian for it and had to show it three times in Halifax Canada, Heathrow and Vienna.
