Thanks every one who is helping me sort out my visa problems. It looks like I have to apply for a 60 day visa here in Canada and then for a 30 day extension once I am in Thailand. Two questions - 1. does this have to be just before the 60 day due date or can it be earlier, 2. Do I have to go to Bangkok to extend or are there local offices?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about extending a 60-day visa for Thailand, specifically whether the extension must be applied for just before the visa expires or if it can be done earlier, and whether extensions can be processed at local immigration offices rather than just in Bangkok. The responses indicate that the extension can be done when there are less than 30 days remaining on the visa and can be processed at local immigration offices, with Bangkok requiring the Chaengwattana office specifically.
There are over 70 immigration offices around the country. Any one of them will do a tourist visa extension- except Bangkok where you have to use the Chaengwattana office not the temporary one at Laksi Plaza.
Depends where you are but generally speaking you can extend it when you have less than 30 days left on your visa. The extension will be added onto your visa expiry date.
You can do this at the local immigration office where you're at when you want to renew.
