Doubtful that you're on a non-O visa, more likely a non-B extension. You need to cancel your work permit at the ministry of labor and take the letter you get from them to immigration to cancel your Visa.
This can be done before your last day of work. You have no legal status in the country once you leave your work, and must exit or change your extension type. You can't transition to a tourist class Visa without leaving the country. Finally if you're actually on the original 90 day Visa which I doubt you can stay till the end of that 90 days.
I don't know about Samui specifically, but in almost all offices you can do an extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp, and in some offices up to 45 days.
Most people use Wise because of their low fees and mid-market forex rates for the 800K transfer. You could also do a Swift transfer but you're at the mercy of the banks forex rates. Depending on the office you are using you might have to prove that the money came from abroad which is no problem using Swift but you have to make sure you have the right flags/reason for transfer if you're using Wise.
