You'd be surprised - there's got to be maybe 10k farang expats, maybe more that are still here and lasted through COVID. Tourists are few and far between. Everywhere I go as a farang I always see other farangs around.
Also burning season hasn't started. Here's the current daily fire count for Feb. It will start but look outside - this is the weirdest February ever. Not just rain - the burning dropped before the rain.
Legitimate volunteer visas are still available. What has been banned is dodgy ones, particularly out of places like Pattaya. It may shock some people to learn - a legit volunteer visa involves actually doing volunteer work.
Bangkok Bank - I tried to deposit a check made out to me into my account, they refused to accept it without my passport - I had my DL and Digital Work Permit as proof but they refused to accept either. Drove 15mins down the road to SCB where I also have an account and it wasn't a problem. Can be hit and miss. Even flying domestically I've had my passport demanded when I've tried to use my Thai DL as ID and yet other times it wasn't an issue.
ED or volunteer visa is fine but you don't "buy one" from an agent (a likely scam) versus sign up with a school or NGO/volunteer organization to get one. Plenty of schools around covering things like learning Thai or self-defense you can sign up to.
if they're signing you up for say an ED on Non-Imm O (volunteer) visa (which most of them do) and you're not attending classes or actually volunteering, that's illegal
