of particular interest is this quote which would suggest that some were arrested for not having done a TM30!

"There are some foreigners who have overstayed their visas, and there are also some foreigners who have not notified the immigration office of their residence and some have not carried out the required 90-day reporting."

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights the consequences foreigners may face in Thailand for not adhering to immigration requirements, particularly the TM30 form. Comments reveal that some foreigners have been arrested for overstaying visas and failing to notify the immigration office of their residence, indicating that not completing the necessary TM30 reporting can lead to legal issues. There is also a debate about the perceptions and responsibilities surrounding these regulations, with some contributors offering personal experiences regarding compliance and immigration processes.

I will caution posters to stay on topic and to NOT slag off the thaiz or thailand. If you can't contribute to a thread don't start thai bashing,.

UPDATE in Phuket Gazette: The mix of nationalities comprises 62 Indians, 11 Pakistanis, 6 Egyptians and 16 foreigners from other nationalities. 70 of them were overstaying (the longest one is 2,000 days or nearly five and a half years) while 24 others were illegal immigrants and one was charged for contravening the Beggar Control Act.

Meeting the requirements of the law are not an undue burden, and administrative requirements like the 90 day report are pretty flexible in before and after the reporting date...even then, the fine can be paid without muss and fuss.

Most foreigners need not fear, only those that are actively trying to break or skirt the law in a grievous manner should. There are no jackboot thugs breaking down doors in general sweeps of everyone they come upon.

Took me 25 minutes on the bike to immigration today, the 90 day report took 3 minutes due to computer problems. About 10 people waiting for Extensions of Stay, they did no look happy when I left so quickly. But as usual, quick, friendly and some small talk. Nice girls in Krabi.

correct as said previous
@Robert ******
after Mae Sai yesterday was ths morning at local immigration in Phayao to report along with my wife in and out in 15 mins, nice friendly officials , plus its only 10 mins from our house

It could be a pain in the arse for people younger that 50 years of age or not married with a Thai or not working. For those, "elderly", married or working it is every 90 days to Immigration and once a year a set of copies. Not that hard.
Terry **********
correct and totally agree, if you follow the rules and visa requirements you can, live here,ok we all know its a pain in the arse, keeping everything updated and such but for all the people complaining about others, nobody asked you to come and live here,as all your comments aint gonna change anything,,,especially the Thaier than Thou Brigade

It becomes very much your responsibility when it isn't done.

It's not down to the tourist / alien to fill in a tm30, it's down to the"house master".
Ken *********
My gf filled one in that I had downloaded & printed off, took it to soi 5 Jomptien, they gave us an identical form to fill in & said new form!, no wonder people don't bother, it's a joke !
Bim *******
I asked years ago about the TM30. They never heard of it.

Tenant has to complete the TM28. Usually it ends up just being the TM30.
Robert *******
Which could be the foreigner if he rents the house.
Ron *******
Just look through people's Facebook profiles. You don't need to be Inspector Clouseau to see who's working on the wrong visas.

Glad you enjoy the traveling and exploring. For how many years have you lived here Lopez?

Thailand Elite would be the worst case scenario. I never said that I'm rich, I just know how to save and not go over my means. I'm not interested in paying the insane amount of money up front required for it. I'm a tourist, based in Bangkok, I enjoy traveling every 90 days and can go to Hong Kong, Laos, Cambodia, traveling to bordering countries and applying for Tourist Visa while I'm there and until Immigration tells me that I'm wrong and I can't do that anymore then I'll go from there. But so far this is how it's working out for me and people who have Non B based on marriage or work permit or retirement shouldn't look down on the people who choose to be based in Thailand this way. I will probably get married first and switch to a Non Imm Visa based on Marriage, before I ever come to terms with paying for the Thailand Elite visa.
Robert ********
As Ron says, you can also consider the Thailand Elite Visa which is specifically designed for foreigners wishing to remain here long term!
Robert ********
@Lopez ****
IF you have so much money saved, then you should invest...this is the kind of foreigners the Thai Govt. is favoring.
Ron *******
If you have a lot of money then the Thailand Elite visa is designed for you.
Jason ******
I'm living in Thailand on Tourist Visa because that's the Visa that I'm eligible for. I'm not working, not married to Thai national, not over 50. But I want to live in Thailand, can support myself without having to work illegally here but apparently this is frowned down upon people like me who want to be single and not work but live in Thailand on a Tourist visa. I quit my job in US and have a lot of money saved up and decided to spontaneously move to Thailand.
Steve ********
its a popular country. we tolerate the totalitarian Police State restrictions pretty well. 30 day visa runs, 60 day visas, 1 year visa, masses of paperwork, report to police every 90 days. I honestly think any westerner doing that crap has got rocks in their head.

i went to Malaysia to get a visa and noticed you get 90 days automatically there, maybe in wrong country lol
Ron *******
The whole country is full of them Graham. If they was even remotely serious about doing anything to stop it, they would start by stopping people living here on Tourist visa after tourist visa. I often wonder why I bother using anything else myself. They may as well just ditch any other visa and we can all do it.
Ron *******
Richard Lee I never said you have anything to hide. I was simply stating how easy it is to find out about anybody. Those that are working here on the wrong visas are even blatant to advertise the fact.
Steve ********
im the same, nothing to hide. these illegals should just go to the US lol everyone there supports illegals lol
Steve ********
yes i screen friends, but its hard to pick them all up. just sayin' : be carful about girls sending messages and getting nosey. i cant prove they're from immigration, just a theory of mine
Ron *******
We are not friends Richard but I'm reading your whole profile. If I wanted to I could search and find all your posts.

Very easy to find out all about you if I was interested.
Richard *****
Do you not screen your ‘friends’ or just accept anyone who asked? I’ve had several requests from people with almost blank profiles. Unless I know them personally they get deleted.
Steve ********
yes, and my theory is that a lot of "friends" on facebook are actually immigration officials. especially when they ask things like, "whats your job" and "how long have you been here" lol time to ignore that "friend"
Robert *******
Earlier in Phuket: 15 police officers under probe over bribes allegation. In one year 142 aliens are taken by Police but not handed over to Immigration. It seems Immigration have to step in now to fill the gap.
