Have a friend who is returning to Thailand for the first time since COVID and he has a question I couldn't answer with certainty.

How soon can you get a 30-day extension on the 30-day visa-exempt entry? Both Chiang Mai Immigration and elsewhere in Thailand.

I seem to remember you can do it early in CM but two weeks/15 days something like that beforehand at other offices but can't remember. Anyone with what the latest is, much obliged.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A friend is inquiring about the latest rules on extending a 30-day visa-exempt entry in Thailand after COVID. It has been confirmed that locations such as Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Buriram, Phuket, and Chiang Rai permit extensions when there are 45 days or less remaining on the current entry stamp, allowing for an extension application upon arrival.

Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Buriram, Phuket, Chiang Rai and a couple other ones (Surat Thani/Samui maybe) all allow people to apply for extensions when they have 45 days or less left on their current stamp.

So whenever he arrives in Thailand he can ๐Ÿ™‚

The 15 days you are thinking about may be getting a new visa (which isn't what your friend wants)
