How hard is it to get a Thai national a tourist visa into Australia for a short term stay? Proper tourist and the person will return to Thailand with me, roughly a ~2 week stay but less if I can help it :)

I've read the basics but I'm yet to work out how long it takes and how hard it is to obtain.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Obtaining a tourist visa for a Thai national to visit Australia for a short-term stay (approximately 2 weeks) can be relatively straightforward, especially with the recent updates allowing online applications via the Immi Account system. However, the process can involve substantial documentation, including proof of relationship, financial means, and employment verification. It is advisable for the Australian sponsor to assist with the application, although concerns about VFS services have been expressed. Applicants are recommended to ensure all paperwork is accurate and to check various online resources for guidance.

I did tourist visa for my gf, she is Filipino and works in BKk. We needed to provide so many documents it wasn't funny. Proof of relationship, proof of her own money, Facebook chat, photos of us together, passport showing stamps of my visits, letter from my employer stating length of employment and salary, 6 months of my bank statements, my lease, her work permit, letter from her employer granting time off to travel.

As far as I'm aware there is no "short stay" visas, it will either be approved for 3,6 or 12 months

Not sure it's up to date, but it helped me a lot.

Google around. There is an excellent Web site somewhere that has the whole process spelt out for Aussies wanting to sponsor a Thai for an Oz visa.

VFS are crooks.

Vfs don't determine visa approval or not. Whole process is tracked and you can see exactly when documents arrive at Australian embassy

What would they have to gain by tampering with visa requests. They are paid a commission on handling the paperwork and liaising with clients in the local language prior to submission to the embassies. They are paid if you pass or fail. I don't get it?

Who knows if the paperwork leaves your hands, is the complete paperwork the the embassy sees? Just saying. I have read a few stories.

VFS have no say in the issuing of visa's, they can only advise you on the correct paperwork. The actual visa approval is done by embassy staff.

It's very easy to make up a reason for denying a visa. But not actually send to the embassy. Google them. Lots of complaints, but they are becoming a monopoly in this field.

They take money and don't perform the services.
Stephen *******
Crooks in what sense? They only act as agents for the embassies.

Yes they are :)

It is a lot easier than in the past to get an approval for a tourist visa and can be all done online now using the Immi Account system.

Very simple Duncan, the best avenue to ensure success is for you to act as a sponsor as from what I can gather you're an Australian citizen living abroad? The only hassle is the paperwork, however, you can apply online without having to go to VFS.

After seeing some Border Control episodes It is hard to pass the Immigration there. Sorry I do not have any info about visa, but make sure the story is 100 % correct.
