I've found Laos is the easiest to get a single entry tourist visa. Whatever you do, don't go to Penang.

Extend for immigration for another 30 days, or leave to Laos and get another SETV at Vientiane, or leave by air and fly back in to get a 30 day exemption.

Yes. Both times I went to Vientiane I got in the Monday morning queue. I think I was there for about 3 hours. Get there EARLY. Like, go an hour and a half before the time it opens.
