If you were legally married in Thailand and have a pink bordered marriage certificate then what do you mean by the marriage was never registered? You can get a Non-O based on marriage from Australia or when you arrive in Thailand (but this requires funds in a Thai bank account).

If your husband is indeed on a Non-OA Visa with a 21-Sep expiry date and not an Extension of Stay stamp that ends on 21-Sep getting new 12 month insurance and doing a border bounce before the Visa expires gets a new 12 month entry stamp.

It makes a change for someone to say extension when they mean Visa, it's always the reverse :)

You need to convert first to a Non-O 90 day Visa before you can apply for the 12 month Extension of Stay

The 800k is not a cost as that money stays in your Thai bank account. The cost of an in country Visa is 2000B and a Visa Extension of Stay costs 1900B

Look at the Thai Embassy/Consulates in the US to get your Non-O before you arrive so you get 90 days on entry and hit the ground running
