So applying in UK still requires the 800k in Thailand for the extension? (Someone suggested not above, but then linked to Oz consulate.)

You will have to learn the process for retirement visa anyway, so until something happens, bring one 800,000 baht over. That way you are not throwing away the interest on a second 800,000.

I don't think you are saving any complexity by both being on independent visas. The surviving partner will have to do the retirement visa process either way.

Stuart anyone who has been in this group more than 5 minutes knows your reputation, expertise and generosity; you've no need to defend yourself here!

Just on the of chance you have a million in usd assets or 80k income a year, you can get the wealthy pensioner LTR, really convenient if you are that wealthy.

Don't know about the rest, but you can fly here without a visa, ie, drive to the airport on the night the house sale finishes, enter Thailand visa exempt, then do your visa application here. Finding a condo takes a week, and you could do it before you get your visa. Staying in different areas might take a few weeks if you're not sure where you want to live.

Stuart replies to pretty much every post in the group with the most authoritative advice of anyone in the group. I advise being really polite, as you'll probably need his help shortly.

Maybe the marriage will be more easily accepted by Germany having been through the lengthy process, and by taking a short cut now you might be giving yourself more headaches if you ever want to visit Germany together or register a child for a German passport, etc? I've absolutely no idea but having done similar I know bureaucratic headaches, and the immense value of historical paperwork documenting your relationship.

I assume that when you convert to THB you'll get the KBank rate. But I'm curious - you transfer into a Thai GBP account? Does this qualify for a retirement visa 65k even though it isn't converted? Thanks, if so I'll open a GBP account for when I get there in a couple years.
Chris *****
I guess you get KBank's interbank rate. Do look at Wise, they'll give a better rate than KBank (or Bkk), when I checked even including the fee Wise were fractionally better than both.

Oh sorry I was talking about using a santander credit card. I'm unhappy with them as they claim it's fee free so I used mine to buy our Elite and was stung.
