Hi all, I recently learned you can only get a visa on the basis of marriage to someone on a retirement visa outside Thailand. Can you obtain the visa on the basis of being a parent of someone in school in Thailand in-country? This is a problem because many consulates refuse to issue anything to an Ethiopian passport, and Ethiopia has no consulate so you must navigate a fixer-dominated system in Kenya. Huge thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers on the eligibility for a visa in Thailand for a foreign parent of a child enrolled in a school there. It is mentioned that a guardian visa may be available if the child is on an ED visa, but typically, this requires the applicant to have a minimum bank balance of 500,000 baht and might necessitate traveling outside of Thailand to process the application. Other comments conveyed the complexity of navigating visa processes, especially concerning Ethiopian passport holders, and pointed out that visa status changes, such as from retirement to marriage, can be managed within Thailand.

You can get a guardian visa if your child is on an ED visa at an approved school. You need 500k baht in the bank. But again I think you have to travel outside Thailand to get it.
