No , crap. I have seen an overstayer of 3 months fork out over 44,000 baht at Ranong boarder crossing. He was shitting himself.

ok , I only overstayed once due to a lost passport and opting a full passport replacement rather then emergency passport left me with about a 3 month overstay, this was just before they introduced the hefty bans for overstay, fine was 20,000 baht, a flight to KL for 1 night and back into LOS

I forgot to mention that I had a valid visa but it was lost with the passport, when the new passport arrived it was of course empty and no visa to show, I was like coy that my then girlfriend handled the situation well with immigration and made things easier, she explained the situation, kept her cool and spoke politely

I was asked if I had a Thai girlfried , Immigration then asked 'what does she do ? I said she yak yak me tookwun tookyung. They laughed so hard, then patted me on the back while passing me through the checkpoint.

I have seen people pay much more than 20 000 baht to immigration personaly on two occasions.

I dont live under a bridge and expect such comments from people.

The possible intentional confusion of the official fine and possible extortion money is not conducive.

The official payment for this is 500 baht per day up to a maximum of baht in the normal case, no matter how many days or years more.

The rest you only claim big and wide first.

I am aware of many cases, as I deal with these authorities, who have not paid more as usual.

They we’re just made up numbers to say what a typical overstay might be. A 3 year overstay is in a different league. Yes the fine maxes out at 20k but you won’t be leaving via a land border.
