But try opening a bank account in Thailand, it's a nightmare. Lolπ. I used to have an account with SCB., which was closed by the bank because I'd moved back to the UK and lack of funds then in account. When I first opened the SCB account in Udon Thani back in around 1999, all I did was walk into a branch armed with my passport which had a visa exempt stamp in it and a savings account was opened in my name. Took all of twenty minutes. How times have changed for the worse for expats.
I'm with RBS., and as with most banks with I believe the exception of HSBC., all UK banks will close accounts of customers not living in the UK. Nationwide will allow you to keep your accounts with them if you live abroad also. I'm opening Nationwide accounts soon and transferring all my RBS funds to Nationwide.
Don't need to be rich to be happy & content. Health is the number one issue I reckon and there are plenty of unhealthy foreigners living in Thailand. Health is wealth so they say, so I am rich. The money thing is nothing as far as I'm concerned. π π π
