TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around obtaining a DTV visa in Thailand at a reasonable cost. The original poster expresses frustration over high fees charged by agents wishing to avoid exorbitant service costs. Many commenters suggest that applying for the visa independently is straightforward, emphasizing that the process involves filling out forms and providing necessary paperwork without needing an agent. Some individuals share their experiences, noting that it can be done efficiently on one's own, often saving significant money. Guidance on requirements such as proof of funds and the typical application process is provided, reinforcing the notion that the DTV visa is one of the easier visas to apply for.

You, son, have no idea how expensive it has been to stay in Thailand with ED Visa...! If you can't pay an agent, how can you pay the girls?

This is about the simplest thing you can do relative to any government. Easier than renewing your license in your home country imho.

Just go on the website and submit the requested paperwork. If they need anything else they email you a request and it’s very clear.

Good evening! If you have more important things to take care of and prefer not to spend time on the Thailand e-visa website, I’d be happy to assist with the online application. My service fee is 3,000 Baht.

That is a good price for people who do not want to do applications themselves or are worried about uploading the relevant documents. Do you off a check of the documents they send you before uploading?

Thank you for your comment! I’ve been helping Thais apply for Schengen, UK, US, and Australian visas, which are much more complicated than the Thai e-visa. I had the opportunity to help an Australian friend in Bali apply online, and once his visa was approved, he flew to Thailand.

A year ago I went to my best friends daughters wedding in the UK. He is actually a British Ambassador. My Thai friend was invited and he would write her a letter. We were told there was not enough time to apply ie less than 3 months. Crazy that it would not be straight forward. She has her own business and travel regularly.

The last company I worked for was a large Japanese BOI global company in Thailand. In fact the first Japanese BOI company. . Their HR Admin did all the foreigners visa packs and applications. They knew exactly what the document pack needed to consist of. However, all travel and foreign visas outsiurced

It's very easy to do it yourself. Cost me €350 to do it myself, only took what 20 minutes total.

Are you in Thailand, and is that why your are wanting an agent to do it for you?

If that's the case, could be cheaper to just go to one of the easy embassies as shared in the group?

This is to keep the riff Raff and just anyone from getting it. Thailand wants quality professionals not just runaways or angry westerners.

Pay or stay, that’s how it works man

I am a pay to avoid the hassle type too but when I am dealing with immigration in Thailand. Once it is outside Thailand the risks increase a lot. The agents in Thailand have contacts - do those offering services outside Thailand and can they guarantee longevity like those inside Been many a disaster over the years.

There are hundreds of posts of people doing it on their own. Few seem to have needed an agent. Why use one for such a simple process? It's one of the easiest long stay visas to get.

Well, I went to another consulate and got it. Basically, Vientiane is OK if you've got the funds sitting in your account for a long time as that's all they seem to care about.

True, it's not that much, but would prove problematic to show, with very few applicants if that were made a requirement. 500,000 on the other hand? Very easy to meet that requirement.

As long as I can keep the money where I want it to be and not locked in a Thai account, I would not have problems with it.

Yes, it's reasonable though in reality it's not going to last more than 6 months. It certainly won't last for 5 years. In any case, I'm not suggesting the criteria should be changed. 500K is reasonable. Very few people would have 5 million Baht to show (if that were made the requirement).

Even 500K isn't enough for anywhere close to 5 years of residence in Thailand. It's only sufficient for about 6 months...maybe less.

Around 85,000 a month. Crikey depending on your location and overheads, that'd be very expensive for myself. I could live well on about 20k a month. Mind you I don't have to pay rent, electric or water.

Thai embassy gives a guideline of 1000 euro for 30 days for tourists, which would mean 500K THB should be enough for about 14 months for the average tourist.

I think 500K is a very reasonable requirement for people wanting to stay in Thailand for a period between 180 and 360 days.

I actually enquired about this with an agent for applying in Vientiane. The issue back then was, while I had the money, at the time, the funds hadn't been sitting in my account for the required 3 months that Vientiane demands (which i find ridiculous). The agent wanted 27K, which is relatively cheap compared to what they're charging now.

I then considered that given no other consulates are requiring the funds to be there for 3 months and I meet all the requirements anyway, why would I waste my money on paying an agent when I can do it myself?

I'd rather spend that amount on a business class ticket to Taipei, or a business class ticket to Saigon with change leftover and get it done in one of those places.

since this visa must be issued in other countries, and rules vary so greatly from one consulate to another for how the funds must be proved, it doesn't seem like something most agencies can help many people with.
