no need to show proof of funds, onward ticket or accommodation. It's as easy as showing up with a few passport photo copies and a photo

I got the single entry tourist visa by post in Feb from London queensgate and it was a 5 working day turnaround

Nope. You can get an extension denied stamp for 7 days but your only other option is a border bounce for another 30 day exempt

I had the same experience November just gone. I went to Laos to get an SETV and flew back domestically from Udon Thani and all was ok

What are the best visa options for my family to stay in Thailand for one year while I am on an ED visa?

I believe so but best wait for one of the admins on this page to verify. The only difference it makes being a child is that there is no fine for overstay (age dependant). That would total 3 'border bounces' (can do same day return to BK) and 1 'visa run' (which would take a few days) totalling 4 trips
