People on the gulf islands (Tao, Phanghan, Samui) actually appreciated the 3000 deal. It saved them an extra hassle of having to return a 2nd time on a ferry boat trip just to get the stamp. It's a non-standard fee though. The official is always 1900baht.
It sounds like you were given the "express" service to expedite your stamp. This happened a few times at Surat Thani also last year. When word got around, they quickly stopped doing it.
If it's your first extension since you arrived, then you get 30 days as a standard extension. Then you may attempt to apply for a 60-day covid hardship extension up to 45 days before your new extension stamp expires (if the government has not ended covid extension program by the time you apply). Jody Dayton Peace That's news to me. I am not on a tourist visa, I'm on a visa exemption. So I have to do mine at the office in Muang Thong Thani...and they did not require me to do any 90-day reporting.
