@Brahim *****
Technically not an incorrect statement but it feels a bit like fear mongering. If you are on overstay and present yourself at immigration or the airport you will be fined. If you are at the airport and the overstay is less than 24 hours, no fine. If you are stopped by the police and found on overstay many bad things can happen like deportation and blacklist. These things do not happen without a judge so it is up to the judge what to apply within the legal guidelines.

My understanding is that it was never 100 percent closed as there were a few special flights to get foreigners home. As of now Phuket airport is open for in Thailand travel but I do not think any airlines are starting up there until early next week. Your comment may have been directed toward normal international tourist flights where I would say you are completely correct :-)

I have not tried myself but have read lots of stories. My conclusion is that. Bangkok bank is your best bet but it is completely branch specific. In Chiang Mai for instance there are a fair number of Bangkok bank branches but one specific one that pointed to if they want to open an account on a tourist visa. To avoid high ATM charges I just go to any Bangkok bank branch and can withdraw amounts free of charge using my home debit card.

I do not disagree with anything you have said. I am not sure at all whether you are one of them, but it feels that too many people think TransferWise is free. It is for sure for profit but the business model makes for lower and somewhat more hidden fees than banks.

I am not an American so will not comment on how to deal with the embassy. I have seen cases on the forum where people have been shown not to need the letter

I think it will help you get better answers if you can share the basis in which you entered and stay in Thailand.

Bars closed in greater Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Ubon. Perhaps others I have not heard about. Also do not kid yourself it is likely going to be more than two weeks.

500 baht or $10 US is the normal fee for non Thai to enter at Mai Sai/Tachilek border.

Every consulate or embassy is going to operate differently so please do call them. I would not count on same day service just based on my own experiences.
