Your situation is complex enough that I am going to suggest that you wait until morning in Thailand when one or more of the admins will give you excellent advice. I will say that rather than stressing about tax, you will need to consider what if any visa would allow you to legal from Thailand. You can check with the Elite program folks but I THINK but do not know for sure that when you pull back the layers the underlying visa is classed as a tourist visa which does not allow work from Thailand. Many digital nomads work with a tourist visa as it is not strictly enforced but it is still illegal.
Robert I am wondering if you have any current info on the backup on appointments in Vientiane? The OP has said that he has to leave Thailand by Sunday. The OP could end up having to spend some time in Laos waiting for his appointment which may or may not be an issue for him.
I think your quick explanation of the METV might be confusing to people. The METV gives you a six month window to enter the Kingdom from the day it is entered into your passport. On each entry you will be granted a permit to stay of 60 days. While it is possible to extend any entry for another 30 at immigration there are few reasons to do so. When you are near the end of the 6 month visa you can do one last out and in to get a last 60 days and by extending at immigration get almost 90 days beyond the visa end date.
No problem. The real experts on this forum are in Thailand where it is approaching 6AM so you might get some more answers in a few hours. I do feel comfortable that I have given you solid advice and would tell you if I was not sure!
No need for proof of a place to stay every night. The METV is good for six months from the time it is put in your passport. You can enter and leave as often as you like although each entry only gives you a 60 day stay as it seems you understand. Your return flight can be quite a ways out as some people enter the last time on day 59 and stretch things to almost 9 months. You show bank statements at the Embassy but cash only at immigration and you will not have access to an ATM before getting to immigration. I find it a pain to carry that much cash but it is what it is.
It looks like you will be travelling on a Canadian passport? If so you have several options. The more rock solid one would be to purchase a multiple entry Thai visa at the Embassy in Ottawa. You will still need to purchase visas for the other countries you are visiting but I think you can do that at the boarder. A second option would be to do your Thai entries on a visa exempt entry. You might get a little more concern from Thai immigration but the only for sure rule is no more than 2 land entry visa exempt entries in a 12 month period. As always when entering Thailand have

baht in cash or the equal in say CAD, proof of onward travel, and proof of a place to stay.
Just a bit of terminology. Thailand does offer a visa on arrival but it is only 15 days and only for some countries. As a Canadian what you received was a 30 day stay from a visa exempt entry
Victor I am not familiar with that border crossing but am familiar with Mae Sai/Tachilek (spelling?). At that crossing it is for sure 500 baht or $10 US dollars for a day pass. The key there is that foreigners are not allowed onward travel from Tachilek. If onward travel within Myanmar is allowed at your proposed crossing then you would need a visa to enter Myanmar.
