Anyone got any advice? Finnair has just cancelled my flight again back to the UK. I was originally booked for 24 may. Then 4 July and last one 27 July. No explanation just cancelled and said they have no alternative flight to offer. When I checked on there flight booking's there are other flight date's?? Also this free visa runs out on 31 July what happens then?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is facing multiple cancellations of their flight back to the UK with Finnair, compounded by an expiring visa in Thailand. Other users suggest contacting the embassy, looking into alternative airlines, and express concerns about overstaying the visa. Discussion indicates that there may be flights available with other airlines, and that current visa amnesty might allow for some flexibility around the expiration date.

Do you want to go back to the UK, or just get a new visa/entry? Either way, we should know soon if the amnesty will be extended. If the borders with Laos and other nearby countries open, you can hop across and get a new visa/entry. If flights start again, you should be able to re-book to go back to the UK as FinnAir have only cancelled as all flights from/to Thailand are still restricted.

. I admire your optimism about "hopping across land borders"! The latest video broadcast from PR Thai emphasised the Alternative Quarantine for foreigners coming in on Work Permits in July. I think border bouncing is at the very least six months away if not longer, unless the government intends to install quarantine stations at land borders, and depending on the neighbouring country, we could see a 28-day "hop"! But I do like your positive thoughts!

Can't say I'm optimistic, although Laos has had 0 cases for a while, but as my family are stuck in Laos, I'm hopeful. But in respect to the OP's question, if the border remains closed, the amnesty will be extended.

How can you be sure if land borders are closed the amnesty will be extended. If your home country is open and flight available, no matter the cost they might say get on one. You are not their responsibility. Harsh but just might happen

. The border for leaving never closed, and with international flights now starting up again, the need for amnesty extension may have passed. I wouldn't like to be in Thailand with an expired visa right now, and I hope that all those that are, have got their Plan B ready. The Thai government are promoting domestic tourism, but it's aimed very much at Thai people, with "No Foreigners Admitted" hanging on the gate! It seems the writing is on the wall.

. I agree. I don't actually see any correlation between land borders and visa amnesty. The amnesty was provided as people could not physically leave the country due to cessation of flights and initially accepted embassy letters for in-country extensions. As this resulted in mayhem at immigration offices which totally contradicted safe distancing, an automatic amnesty was granted. The land borders were closed to stop the spread of covid 19 in an uncontrolled environment. All that was being done were temperature checks, which although can detect if a person is sick, cannot detect if a person will become sick an hour later. At least with airports the government has a controlled environment and people are physically escorted to a quarantine centre. This is not workable at a land border, and the authorities (on both sides of the border) know this. I could be totally wrong, but it would surprise me if land borders between (say) Thailand and Laos are opened before air connections.

I agree, I can't see any land borders opening any time soon. I'm just hoping that flights will be relatively frequent once these travel bubbles are confirmed as my wife will need to make use of one of them (and yes it is for purely selfish reasons hah!)

Yup or opened jist for nationals of the 2 countries involved. Immigration officers are not gping to sift through passports calculating time in different countries. As for tourist and visa exempt at land borders I doubt that until full airport and flight openings as you point out

There are thousands who need to border bounce to get a new entry or who need a new B or O visa. It's not been possible to do this and won't be until the borders reopen. I haven't seen any indication that those affected will be denied this option and will be forced to go back to their home country, but maybe that will happen. We should know soon as a decision re the amnesty will need to be made in the next few weeks.

. Who told these teachers that they "should" be able to get their visas from Laos next month. Neither PR Thai or the Australian Embassy have mentioned this sudden relaxation of covid measures. With businesses in Thailand hanging out for the return of tourists, this "back door" initiative could cause some major unrest!

I see there's an article in the Bangkok Post, which may possibly be the one Greg may have seen too, but basically they've said that foreign teachers look like being included in any travel bubble which would support the non-B visa from Laos in your comment. My wife needs to convert from her non-O dependent into a non-B as she's starting a teaching job in August so it's one I'm keeping an eye on at the moment.

The PR guy was saying today people overseas with long term visas, not tourists, can aplly to enter. This will be on a case by case basis. So it does look like they are relaxing things a bit. Lets hope they are pragmatic aboit those already in country such as getting Non B here instead of having to go outsode the borderd

I do find it rather worrying, yet also amusing in a wicked way, that whenever they mention anything about long term residents returning the people entering as tourists seem to think they will be able to return as they have a Thai wife. That may actually turn out to be the case but from what I've seen it's unlikely to be done that way. You'd hope they will be pragmatic about the non-B conversion in country as, ultimately, that's the safest and easiest way to ensure no covid is brought into the country from overseas. It will also bring in additional tax revenue and money to the economy as a whole.

The ones with Thai wives and families holding a visa based on marriage or dependent are being looked at and hopefully prioritised. Those visiting them on tourist visas will probably have to wait till tourists are allowed from where they are from. Hopefully yes about the Non B pragmatism. CompamyO work for needs specialist engineers in to install new production lines. BOI company and all product will be exported. So it is good for Thailand plus production of hi tech hi value product moved here from overseas. I know BOI is sympathetic as it reflects well on them. Wonder how this turns out? I also know of other similar situations where skilled engineers need to come in to increase production here.

Well put. There is no chance in hell anyone is doing a border bounce any time soon. They annoinced today no tourists for a good while. Not a chance of a border bounce before tourists allowed in and then ot will be specific countries only in air corridors. To be a pessimist they might tell those on amnesty you have

Yes there is no news yet on the visa amnesty but many people living here now have the same problem and need border run or other solution, so you are not alone, it is to early to ask.... so there should be a solution, or you find a flight or there will be a possibility to do border run, or extension with immigration, or help from embassy or they extend the visa amnesty... if not many people will be in a panic

I totally agree as many people are stressed out about this, but I suppose they will clarify closer to date, for the tourists on a free ride visa, they are still spending money here and help a little bit with the occupation of the housing market, car and bike rental, and restaurants, as no international tourists it would not be bad for the local community if also they can stay till international borders open (just my opinion)

. Totally agree. The Thai tourism ministry is promoting domestic tourism, but happy to let tourist attractions hang the "No foreigners allowed" sign on the door. Fortunately hotels and restaurants will not do the same as they know it's akin to putting a "not interested in staying in business" sign on the door. Unfortunately there are two very distinct categories of "tourist". There are those with money to burn enjoying the extended vacation, but there are those with their backsides hanging out of their pants joining the "free food" queues because they've run out of money. It will be interesting to see how immigration can separate the two!

. Yes, and those logistical problems will be insurmountable, which is why I think people with non-immigration visas should make representations to their respective embassy in Thailand to raise the subject with Thai immigration. It's all right saying "wait until July 31" but that creates too much uncertainty amongst longstay visa holders, who should be addressed in a different category to tourists, who essentially have had a free "stay of execution" and I think should accept it's time they left. The different visa types are being clouded and need some clarity

. I think Border Bounces are a thing of the past. There's no indication of when borders with neighbouring countries will open again, and when they do, will 14 day quarantine apply both ways? A 28 day border bounce will not be very attractive! I do believe concessions may be made for long stay visas after August 1st, but I do think people on visa exempts and tourist visas will get a period of time to leave Thailand and make their way home.

On a different note about visa amnesty. Yes it currently runs out on July 31st. But that doesn't mean that they won't extend it.

But a thought that nobody has brought to light is if the emergency decree is taken away, all the laws enacted for it are gone. I would imagine that includes the visa amnesty.

I don't see that happening but just something that has popped into my head recently.

I think when the amnesty does expire it will not be an automatic August 1st your on overstay. I do believe that they will give a 7-14 day window to get visa/extension or departure from Thailand. They will have to do something to limit/disperse the mass amount of people that would show up on August 1st at immigration offices.

. I'm not disagreeing with you. You know the Thai borders will open very slowly to let people back in, and the Thai authorities will be very selective about how it's done. Sadly I see the UK being a long way down the list, not due to these two people who could have picked up the virus from anywhere, but to the general attitude of Johnson and his government to dealing effectively with the virus. The UK does not have a good reputation as far as Covid 19 goes, and several European countries have said No Brits. I feel for all the expats caught with their pants down when the shutters went up, but I do think it will be a while before the doors are flung open to Brits generally. There is always scope for compassionate grounds, and that may be your best option

Here. Look at this photo. I went to poundland that is the closest shop to get food and toiletries. I was served in Poundland with staff with not masks. Not one in there had a mask. Only saw 2 people with a mask all the time. Even the staff in the bakery had no masks on and no shielding. Do you really think that thailand will open its border to so many ignorant people like UK. I am getting it now why thais say dirty Falang. Another old guy on the plane would not wear a mask on the plane. A hostess pleaded with him for 15 minutes with other airline staff looking on. He started to wear one after I had a word and asked on the point that if he didnt I was going to ask the pilot to turn the plane around and drop him off. That after that I had another instance at my home. I had told an estate agent who wanted to let a prospective buyer around my house. He was left with face masks to wear on viewing and told to wear when in the premises. I found them on the ground floor without them. Was told that they did would not wear them. I threw them out. Is the people in the UK sick or what.

. Totally agree with everything you say. The Brits go on about repeating the WW2 spirit. That is absolute rubbish. The generation in 1939-45 had to wear proper gas masks in the event of air raids, but this present day fragile sensitive generation won't wear a simple cloth mask over their mouth and nose for the short periods they are in shops or public transport. Plus they have an oaf as a PM who left airports open for anyone coming in (a PM who was elected on a platform of "taking control of our borders"), no mandatory quarantine, and a half-assed lockdown. I feel sorry for the British expats who are compelled to leave Thailand. I feel many will never be back because the wait will be too long.

Two people from the UK went to New Zealand yesterday and brought the virus with them, and that has really upset the Kiwis as they were celebrating defeating the virus. Technically not an incorrect statement but it feels a bit like fear mongering. If you are on overstay and present yourself at immigration or the airport you will be fined. If you are at the airport and the overstay is less than 24 hours, no fine. If you are stopped by the police and found on overstay many bad things can happen like deportation and blacklist. These things do not happen without a judge so it is up to the judge what to apply within the legal guidelines.

Before covid I made about 200 flights a year. So I have a pretty good idea what is involved in booking a flight.

Also in the past month at least 3 friends flew from Bangkok to Amsterdam on KLM. So there seems to be no issues there. All these flights where reported to be half full.

Also looking at skyscanner for coming Thursday the 18th there are many flight options to get back to London. The cheapest one way being Qatar for 395 euro.

we must see whether they decide to extend the amnesty or not. If they decide not then it's overstay for sure but that doesn't mean blacklist at all costs. There's a window of time from overstay start you can get away with a fine of 500 baht per day before blacklist occurs

by now there are more and more flights going to Europe. Take KLM to Amsterdam they are flying all be it half empty. And from Amsterdam to the UK ..... well ..... you could almost swim the last bit.

You are not even in Thailand at the moment. A travel agent working since 2006 told me today that the whole amnesty thing is you got until 31 july to leave. Now why would anyone risk overstaying? As walter said plenty flights and airlines.
