I’ve read in this group and on other online forums that the Thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur is notorious for wanting extra documents not listed on the checklists and it seems like everyone recommends Penang instead. Just want to share the GOOD experience we had this week in case anyone else is considering going there!
Arrived at 7:30am and was #4 in the queue, gates opened at 9am, waited in the A/C for the counters to open at 9:30am, and was out the door by 9:45am. Picked up our visas the next day, which took no time at all.
They didn’t ask for any documents not listed on the checklist for our non-imm O visas and everyone working was very polite and helpful. I did see them turning some tourist visa applicants away for not having their printed itineraries and hotel bookings with their application, but those items are on the checklist that’s posted to the embassy website, so there’s no excuse for anyone to not bring them.
Based on our experience, the fact that Malaysia doesn’t require a visa for entry, and the fact that tickets are cheaper from BKK to KL than to Penang, we would definitely choose to go there over Penang or Laos next time.
