I have only 1 SETV and when my 60 days are up, I want to apply for a 6 month METV. Should I fly to KL or Vientiane?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering whether to travel to Kuala Lumpur or Vientiane to apply for a 6-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) after their 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) expires. Comments indicate that the 6-month METV cannot be obtained in Vientiane, but it is possible in Kuala Lumpur if one meets specific financial requirements and presents multiple tickets to and from Thailand. Advice suggests flying to Kuala Lumpur due to cheaper airfare and the likelihood of successfully obtaining the visa there.

We sure need someone to go try it and then report back on how it really works AND be willing to post a pic of the visa too ;)

I am an Indian resident and the choice is between flying to Calcutta or going to KL. KL airfare is 3000 Baht cheaper and I thought it might be a nice break, but if there are likely to be hassles perhaps I should just do it in India.
, you could be right but I thought someone just tried it and posted on this group they needed to show the balance for 6 months before that. I could easily be wrong though..

After reading the bullet again, and I am not the smartest person in the room...
I believe all you need is 30,000RM [200,000THB, or $7,700] as the balance, so it is the same as all the other Embassies/Consulates that offer this Visa. Most banks give you a print out for the past 6 months anyway so It's not a big deal.
When I went to the Thai Consulate in NYC I had to show them a Bank Statement showing 6 months and the balance which had to prove 200,000THB or at the Time $7,000 or so based on the exchange rate...
The only difference with the KL Consulate is your Plane tickets Out/In from Thailand at the 60-day marks I am guessing. You might be able to get around this by saying you are booking a land Border Crossing, or there are lots of Agents in KL that will specialize in helping you out with this visa.
I dont think they care about so much about it being a Malaysian Bank Acct as long as you have the necessary amount in the bank acct...when I did mine in the USA they just wanted to see 200,000THB or the equivalent in Dollars...
, it doesn't say you need a bank account in malaysia :/ you can show them the bank account balance from the US. It just has to be the equivalent of RM30K
I cannot meet the requirement of having a Malaysian bank account. My accounts are in India and the US.

like I said, hit the criteria and they'll hand you the visa. They are no nonsense about meeting the requirements is all. They're fine to deal with

On the link Jeremy provided pay close attention to #7 and #8, you meet those without any ambiguity or you don't get a visa from them and they are the ONLY thai consulate in S/E Asia that will issue a 6 month METV to non-resident people.

You can't get a 6 month METV in Vientiane. You can in Kuala Lumpur IF you meet the financial requirements and show multiple tickets in and out of thailand during the 6 months.
the METV can only be bought in your Country of Citizenship, A country you are a Permanent Residence in, or at certain Thai Embassies/Consulates around the world...I have heard that the Thai Embassy in Perth Australia caters the METV to certain Passport holders...Someone did claim a while back that they received one in Panang Malaysia but they never did any follow up on it so I have no idea if that is true or not....
