Anyone know a good place to stay in KL that's close to the immigration office?
I went to Penang last time and the hotel helped with everything but heard that office isn't good anymore...plus KL is cheaper flights.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around recommendations for places to stay in Kuala Lumpur (KL) close to the immigration office, particularly for visa-related purposes. A user shares their experience with Signature International Hotel, highlighting its affordability and proximity to key areas like Chinatown and public transportation. Other users provide insights on the visa process in Penang versus KL, with some recommending alternatives like Vientiane for visa needs. The conversation also mentions the convenient use of Grab for transportation in the city.

If you're going to KL use Grab while you're there. Works really well and is half the price of taxis. Plus all the drivers speak English.
also consider Vientiane, still reportedly easy, including for Ed visas. You can fly Phuket to Udon Thani cheap on Air Asia and then it's just an hour by minibus to Laos.

We stayed at Signature International Hotel @Pudu.
$125 CAD for 5 nights. Room was small but clean, with attached bathroom and a separate shower. The staff were friendly and helpful. You can book the room with or without breakfast. Good food options nearby.
It's within a 10 minute walk to Jalan Petaling (China Town), Bukit Bintang (bar and club street) and Jalan Alor (street food market). Also within a 10 to 20 minute walk of a couple of mass transit stations. Most rooms have a view of the city. Picture below is from the 4th floor and I think there are 8 in total.
It was a 15-20 minute, 7 Ringgit (55 baht) Grab ride from the hotel to the Thai Embassy.

If you take the train from Airport to KL Sentral Station, it's 100 Ringgit per person return (55 one way) but a Grab is 65-75 so it's cheaper if there are two, or more, of you.
Edit: But probably 1 hr (or more depending on traffic) vs 30 min by train.

Most of the schools I scouted before signing up said consider going elsewhere. Apparently some staff changes and more checks during the process made it "harder"...thats all they said

Unless you just wanna go to KL, you shouldn't have a problem getting a 90 day single entry Non-ED visa in Penang IF you have the documentation from the school you're enrolled in.
Who said Penang isn't good anymore for them?
