I got approved for a 5 year DTV (workcation) at HCMC. I'm leaving this info to help anyone.
First off a big thanks to all the helpful people who gave me advice here!
I applied on March 6th, got approved on Mar 24th. I do freelance tutoring for international students looking to study in the USA/UK and have a different set up than other teachers here. I had to provide...
A demonstration on Zoom how I teach (screenshots of how I set up my lessons)
Two different bank accounts (3 months worth), one of them highlighted showing the cash in USD (foreign and my USA account)
My schedule, Zoom logs, correspondence with students/clients
My freelance profiles
My bank only releases a statement once a month, which I was worried about since I need to leave Vietnam by April 4th, but they accepted a web print off for March. The statement still hasn't been published for March by my bank and probably won't be till the 30th.
They came back to me twice asking for documents. The first time was the one which required a whole afternoon to assemble. The second time was just asking for corrections with my highlights (probably so it was clearer and easier to read since there was some overlaps in data) of my US bank statements.
This is a big relief for me since I thought I may not get it in time.
The consulate site says 4-5 business days for processing but it takes longer. I would budget minimum a month for this if you consider yourself clever enough to assemble all the documents (you merge them on ilovepdf).
There isn't really any reason to pay anyone to do this since you would be doing 85% of the work yourself gathering documents. The only reason to hire an agent is if you are so loaded that you care about the afternoon of work it will save you and concentration you need to give to it.
I used Claude AI to organize everything and assist me which was great, just check for typos and errors.
Advise please! We are a family who are in HCMC in Vietnam and applying for DTVs. My husband had his approved on the 4th March and we submitted mine and our kids as dependents after that. We were asked for additional documents on the 10th and uploaded those that same day. We have been here now for 4 weeks and our kids are going a bit crazy. The consulate doesn’t pick up the phone and we’ve emailed but no replies. Any advice on how we can check what timeframe we might be looking at or any suggestions for what else we can do to find out? P.s. I know it can take time, so only helpful or supportive comments please! 🙏
Got my approval of DTV work from New York consulate today.
Filed on Jan 8th and status changed to pending approval the next day. Contacted the consulate 3 weeks ago. I was told that because of the planned the departure day is end of March they won’t process the final approval till mid-March. The consulate staff was very nice and patient. Just as she said, it has been approved.
I applied for my DTV for April 2026. Will it automatically be rejected just because of the three months? I'm surprised they would allow you to enter a later date, but then cancel and charge you the 350€ just because it was >3 months from the application date...
I recently applied and haven't heard back. Do you think I have any chances of asking to push the date forward (change of plans) if I call the consulate?
I applied for the DTV visa in Frankfurt and completed all requested documents on October 16.
It has now been 25 working days with no update and no way to contact the consulate.
Is it possible to enter Thailand now on visa-exemption and then do a short exit & re-entry once the DTV visa is approved? ChatGPT says it should work, but I want to confirm with real experiences.
I submitted my paperwork on October 13th, got documents requested on the 17th, and I’ve been waiting since. Is it worth visiting the Embassy in-person to get an update? They immediately hangup the phone if I try to call, and when I emailed them before, they said it would be processed by yesterday. I’m supposed to head out tonight, so I’m worried.
I applied for the DTV visa on May 6th via the Los Angeles consulate with the e visa platform, as a digital nomad.
I received a request for additional documents on May 23rd and I submitted them the same day.
I have yet to receive a status update after the status changed to "pending document check" upon submission.
The website for this consulate says 15 business days for initial response, and if additional documents are requested, it will take another 5 business days.
My planned flight leaves June 20th(US).
It is currently the 16th and I have yet to hear anything.
I saw one post on reddit about delays with additional document processing through this consulate, but it took 11 business days after additional document submission for him.
It has been longer for me.
Has anyone had similar experiences, or any ideas on how to expedite this?
I have emailed the consulate but no response, can't contact via phone either.
Called the NY consulate today and asked for an update on my visa application, since my flight is soon and their processing time is currently around a month. A staff member told me that even if I don't get approved in time, I can go to Thailand as a tourist and once approved, I can leave the country and re-enter with my visa.
Though I suppose immigration could still turn you away when you try to enter.
Just sharing what they said. Don't shoot the messenger cause some of y'all can be jerks lol
I received this request on my DTS application. I am a bit confused as I uploaded a year's worth of bank statements showing incoming paychecks, 500k THB in savings and the account number. The only potential issues I see is that my name is slightly cut off due to length on the statement, and the name of the company paying me is not the same as the name of the company on the contract. Has anyone had any luck calling or emailing the consulate for feedback on what they want here?
