I have searched the group but didn’t find a definitive answer but maybe because there isn’t one. We are on a US passport. My wife and I and our two children (4) and (2) are on a VOA 45-day which started Feb 16th. We plan to extend this by 30 days tomorrow.
Do I really need to get extension for the two children as well? I have heard that under a certain age they will not be penalized for overstay but in other cases I have heard people say that children should be extended on schedule as well.
We planned a week long trip to Cambodia once the extension runs out and plan to return back to Thailand for another 45+30.
Just completed the 30 day extension of my tourist visa in Chiangmai. I was asked for a copy of my TM30 plus there are two new forms to sign, one about the penalties of overstay and the other that it has been explained to you and that you can be turfed for whatever....and my phone number....Went at 8:20 out at 9:30...having been away for two years, I was surprised by the "take a picture of you holding the receipt for the cash and your application picture" and of course I had a big smile representing another happy farang at the one-stop immigration service...actually I did have a smile as the trainees there are so cheerful, I asked her how she could stand working there...alongside the ever-pleasant...you know...
A very common question in this group is about what is the easiest process to get a retirement Visa. I just went through the process of converting from a Tourist Visa to a Non-O Visa based on retirement in Chiang Mai. You have to complete 2 sets of documents in blue ink as follows:
= TM 86 form since I entered on a Tourist Visa. You would complete the TM 87 form if you entered on Visa Exempt.
= Copy of passport including information, visa stamps and entry.
= Copy of TM 6 (if you have one) and TM 30 (showing residence)
= Photographs that are pasted to the TM 86 forms
= Bank certificate letter showing your account and balance (800,000+ Baht). Can be issued up to 7 days before you apply. Bangkok Bank charged 100 Baht for the letter.
= Copy of bank book showing 800,000+ balance. The bank book has to be updated on the day of your Visa application. NOTE: The balance in your bank book must match the Bank letter. This messed me up since I had a transaction on my account that lowered the current balance by 1000 Baht. The nice lady at immigration explained the problem and told me to go deposit 1000 Baht, update the bank book and come back with updated copies. They kept my documents and waited for me to come back. There was a long line at the bank but quickly figured out depositing cash at one machine and then updating my bank book in another so I didn’t have to wait in line. I then needed updated copies which you can get behind the immigration building.
= Completed acknowledgement form of penalties for visa overstay
= Copy of my Tourist eVisa that was issued in the US. That wasn’t on the list of requirements. Luckily I had a copy with me.
= 2000 Baht application fee
NOTE that Chiang Mai requires 15 WORKING DAYS to process the Visa. They accepted my documents on 27 July and told me to come back on 22 August. That was 18 week days because of the holidays during that period. You need to make sure you take holidays into account. Also, you can only apply when you have 30 days or less left on your permitted to stay period so the window is short. In my case I applied shortly after I did the 30 day extension of my Tourist Visa.
My paperwork was apparently processed on 11 August as you can see from the Visa stamp. 11 Aug was the start date vice when they stamped it into my passport on 22 Aug. My Non-O is good till 8 Nov. I’ll need to apply for my one year extension at least 15 working days before that date.

Hi! I'm just new here.. Just want to ask.. I've just seen last night that my visa has expired last april 8 and my work permit is still valid until September 30. How is this? I thought that the wp and visa should have the same expiration? 😪
Need some help. I was on a Non-B prior to the COVID crisis, lost the job during covid so i was unable to leave and return in the traditional way (still the case) for a new entry stamp and or new visa and to properly candle the old. I checked in with immigration just prior to the end of amnesty, paid the 1,900 baht and renewed this a few times. For some reason I've not been receiving the 60 days but rather only 30 max and sometimes less at Changwattana in Bangkok. Currently I'm trying to get a Non-B from a new employer but keep having issues depending on what officer I see. My old Non-B has the employers company written above it so it's not able to be transferred to the new employer, and I'm unable to leave and do a visa run and return with the new non b in the traditional way. Immigration said I can change to a tourist visa but the only one I know they are doing now is the STV which can not be changed to a Non-B. I will show you my recent steps post amnesty....not sure why I've not been getting the 60 day stamp and not sure why I've had to pay 1,900 each time.
