TLDR : Answer Summary
The overstay penalty in Thailand is generally 500 baht per day, with a maximum penalty of 20,000 baht. If an individual overstays and encounters the police, they can face arrest, detention, and possible deportation. The penalty may vary depending on specific circumstances, such as prior immigration history or the discretion of immigration officials.

Depends on the border guard. I paid 1000 baht because I left the day after my work permit was cancelled. The immigration officer who cancelled it told me that I had 24 hours to leave without penalty, The border guard said "no... you pay".

Followed by deportation & a free head shave.

The penalty is nothing to worry about compared to the immigration detention centre.

@Daniel ****
not with 1 day overstay…. Don’t make a drama man…

@Joe *********
No drama unless you are stopped by Police. 1 day overstay can see you held in detention and blacklisted from entry for 5 yrs which is exactly what happened to a friend of mine.

It hasnt changed since you asked last week
Bob **********
Why overstay
Jack ****************
I had quite a few stops and tickets in Patong and nobody ever looked at my passport. I think the odds of getting randomly stopped and arrested are pretty low. (But don't overstay anyway)

500 baht per day, up to a maximum of 20,000 baht

500 a day max 20k . If you get stopped before you get to the airport such as a road checkpoint you will be arrested and it’s an automatic 3yr ban even for 1 day overstay

Did we not have this question a week ago now the penalty is a free stay in the Bangkok Hilton
Frank **********
You posted something similar about a week ago. 500 baht a day, for people who have to ask twice it's double.
Wayne *********
A Week ago you were told 2 days was 1000baht
Brandon ************
500₿ per day up to a maximum of 20,000₿.

If you have any interaction with the police while on overstay (random traffic checkpoint etc) you're likely to be arrested, held in detention, deported and banned from Thailand depending on how long.

You should never overstay.

@Brandon ***********
and didn’t immigration catch a Indian bloke recently who overstayed a mere 2900 days or some such..? Can’t imagine he’s only getting a three year ban.. 555

@Steve *********
read and understand
Daniele ***********
500

If you have to ask, you probably can't afford it 500. There's a maximum of 20,000, I think.
