TLDR : Answer Summary
Overstaying your visa in Thailand by 8 days can result in a fine of 500 baht per day, totaling 4000 baht. There is a maximum fine of 20,000 baht per visa stamp for overstays. Some comments suggest there are concerns about future travel implications due to overstay stamps, but experiences vary significantly among expats, with some reporting no significant issues after minor overstays.

The world has changed and penalties for people overstaying I believe will get a lot harsher. Hopefully all you get is a fine.

I actually think they have eased up a bit on short overstays. There was a time a few years ago with reports of ppl getting arrested in the airport for 1-2 days overstay. But I don't think this is gonna happen any longer...
, true, I was never told about an overstay issue. But when getting a clean passport I was not a subject of investigation any longer :-)

My experience after 16 years, 2 different passports, at least 5 overstays, 0-visas and tourist visas applied and granted with no problems, and never any mention of an overstay issue.
Only problem where I have been questioned at Suvarnabhumi was about frequent border runs and my need to apply for a different visa to avoid this.

As they look at the passport and see all the borderrun stamps, they start shaking their heads and tell me how this is no good.
before Covid I arrived on a 60 day tourist visa so I was flying to Malaysia every 2 months when I departed I made a point of asking immigration if I would have any problem returning all of them said why, also at immigration in land never had a problem getting a 30day I always worried if a immigration 👮 stubbed his toe that day would I get a different outcome
Welcome to the land of smiles

In my experience, I have been questioned about my use of the multi entry tourist visas as it requires border runs which at the border is never an issue, but coming and going thru Suvarnabhumi is.
I have several overstay and it was never mentioned.
please believe me you have overstay even for one day you'll find it difficult for any future visa application seen it and herd it many times, but 8 days overstay B4000 =B500 aday
, true, but the multi-entry Non-O is designed for this. There is nothing wrong with having a multi-entry Non-O and the requirements are almost the same at most embassies as getting an extension.
, seems like you haven't tried to have such in your passport. Until I got a new passport, I was taken out for questioning every time I crossed the border. Yes, I was finally allowed in every time and they never told me the reason for questioning, but when getting a new passport it completely stopped.
, that's true also, but I was also questioned at the airport but much less. I actually thought it was by coincidence and also had the idea of avoiding female officers as they were always more difficult, but when I got a new passport for completely other reasons the issue completely disappeared...
LIVING here and bouncing in and out at land borders with overstay stamps is not the same as having a small overstay in your passport and entering the country :P BUT how about we agree to disagree.
About the only time 100% an overstay stamp will hurt you is:
If they ever open back up, you can't get a tourist visa at the thai consulate in Penang Malaysia with an overstay stamp
AND
you can't get a Thai elite membership with an overstay.
I have overstayed twice in the last 8 years. 2 days and 7 days. Still in my current passport. Never had a problem. No problem returning this year on 1st January either. No problem with visa or COE issue either. Or 90 day report. You must just look dodgy. 🤪
I ran into many problems following an overstay stamp - which I shouldn't even have incurred but Chiang Mai visa office forgot to stamp my passport with the new visa date and I got fined and shouted at at BKK airport. I even had a receipt! Anyway, a year later on a visa run to Hong Kong I was taken into a room where I was interviewed by 5 people. I was then told to get on a plane back to HK. I asked why. No reason was given other than i had a lot of entries to Thailand. I then had to pay a 'fine'. I didn't have to fly back to HK in the end, but it was a truly horrible experience. So the person disagreeing with you is actually right - not everyone's experience is the same and I have heard of many who've had similarly terrible things happen.
you've been stopped for abusing the visa runs, not for overstaying . There is a legal limit for how many times you can enter and re-enter Thailand without a visa.
, I guess ppl know about that. One time (after getting my new passport) I was accused of abusing the "visa runs" on my Non-O visa, which is impossible to abuse as such. Then I tried to get an extension before the Non-O expired but that was refused by my local immigration... Sometimes Thailand is a bit strange...
, ok, for what reason did they take me out every time until I've got my new passport? Let me know :-) I got the overstay for one day after my first more permanent stay in Thailand. It caused a lot more trouble at the time of the overstay. I didnt notice that the month had 31 days :-) Since then I have always had a visa...
