Yeah I got scammed only once in Phuket but lucky for me the ATM didn't have the 20K they were asking me to pull out of it so I got off with a small "fine" to "help" me avoid the trouble. Although you were lucky, others may not and one still shouldn't oversay because eventually you may run into the wrong immigration officer and or cop.

officially it's two times per year by land entry and no limit by air, but as some have said, "it depends."

Not based on my own experience Stuart. In my old passport I had one overstay just a day late because I was changing jobs and wasn't able to exit quickly in the province I was based in at the time. After that overstay note made in my passport by immigration, they always asked about it when I had to check in to immigration or re-entered. Generally it's a simple explanation that will satisfy the officer but from time to time they would suggest they can't issue the new extension because of an overstay, 'unless I paid a fine' that was obviisuly a bribe.

If you plan to return, I would advice against it because you'll get a mark stating you over stayed in your visa and every time you enter Thailand or go to immigration, they will ask about it and use it as a means to extort you.

what I mean is they often push the end of the covid exception stamp on the day it's set to end. So I fear going on Friday, and then they allow the exption another month on the 25th. I have a Non B work visa in the works but I don't want the hastle of a few border bouncees if I can avoid it.

I was thinking to go that Friday before the 24th but it's so common that the extension law will change at the last possible moment. Not sure what to do.
