Does anyone know what happens if someone overstays visa because cannot travel due to Covid exposure (but not positive test result)? Will immigration officials issue an overstay fine?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Overstaying a visa in Thailand due to Covid exposure, even without a positive test, typically results in standard penalties being applied. Immigration rules state that individuals must proactively apply for an extension before their visa expires. Even with medical documentation, fines of 500 Baht per day for overstays will still apply, reaching a cap of 20,000 Baht. Visitors are advised to seek assistance from medical facilities for letters to support their cases.

Q: We need to extend our stay in Thailand but my wife is ill with dengue fever. Can I renew on her behalf?
ANSWER: If you are sick or receiving treatment at a hospital, you can send someone on your behalf to renew extension of stay. But, you will need to get a doctor’s certificate to show the Immigration officer. Please note, if you overstay you will still need to pay the 500 Baht per day fine even if you have a doctor’s certificate.
They have helped hundreds of expats who have COVID and who need assist with Thai immigration and their options regarding hospital/hospitel/remain at home isolation.
No medical issue is a valid reason for overstay. There are wellknown cases that patients during where in hospital when the visa expired and had to pay overstay fee. And risk a negative notation. So yes. Normal overstay rules apply. You need to let some one file for your extension. The hospital can do that to or write at least letter about your medical situation. Thats the procedure

Thanks! Just trying to know what our options are that’s all. We had a flight booked Tuesday but cancelled (even though none of us had tested positive…just didn’t want to take the risk) and now just looking to see how much time we have to play with and what options we have if we cannot fly before visa expires.
if none of you have tested positive and your not in government quarantine I don't think you have any options. Immigration will want official letters from medical staff before looking at providing extensions
if they have been living with someone who tested positive for Covid I don't want him next to me on an airplane. Maybe you would.

Normal overstay rules still apply regardless of covid

If you can not travel, you have to apply before your last day of the current Admitted until or permitted up to date mentioned in your passport.
IF you are in quarantine, the medical facility offers help and a letter to bring to the Immigration office to apply for an Extension.
If you do nothing and just go into overstay, the penalty is 500 thb a day with a maximum of 20.000 Thb, depending on length of overstay black listed to re-enter Thailand.
If you get caught with overstay, another can of worms will open up.
Prevent to go into overstay, it is not that difficult.

Thanks! As long as none of my kids test positive too 🙏 before those ten days are up and the quarantine period is extended.
quarantine is 10 days, so you have time to leave before 20 Feb.

Ok! Thanks. Our children played with another kid on Friday who tested positive yesterday. We were meant to leave on Tuesday but have now postponed our travel because of being exposed. Our visa expires Feb 20th so we still have time, but trying to figure out options to prevent an overstay situation.
