I opened a bank account with Bangkok Bank using an agent just over 12 months ago whilst on holiday … Ive deposited money into my account just recently from my home country ( England) . I’ve checked my app and the money has gone in .
So the question is
Will a bank account except money if it is locked?
Or if it is excepting money it mustn’t be locked ?
I return to Thailand in October .. when I try to use my account whist being in Thailand , will it automatically lock ? Or I’m I going to be lucky ?
I am at 3 weeks that my Bangkok Bank account has been locked. I visited with a senior manager yesterday and I want to update you on what's going on if you're still waiting like me:
1. The staff that told me funds would be available in three to 5 business days misspoke. The bank manager brought them into the office and reprimanded them for providing that "wrong information".
2. There were dozens of files of people waiting for their funds to be unlocked many whom came to unlock their accounts ahead of me. There were so many, that the files were stacked on the floor in piles by the date the customer came into the bank.
3. The manager informed me that she and the rest of the staff are working 7 days a week in order to provide the necessary information to the head office in Bangkok for the accounts to be unlocked.
4. "If you want to withdraw your funds immediately you may do so but you will be locked out of opening a future account with Bangkok Bank and any other bank in Thailand." I have not confirmed if this is true or not.
5. High net worth customers were the first to have their accounts unlocked. Go figure.
6. She informed me that it is improbable that the unlocking of the account will take up to three more weeks or longer. Typically, she observes the accounts being unlocked from this day forward within 3 to 5 business days. I've heard that before.
7. Don't shoot the messenger.

Any Dutch people here that got the Workation DTV owning their own business in a working company + personal holding structure?
Did you apply as self-employed or as remote worker? As legally you’re employed by your personal holding?
Was looking to apply for my DTV while I'm at work in Taiwan but heard from one of the guys at work it's difficult here with the embassy being in the Philippines, there being awkward making it over complicated with documents. Anyone done it here in Taiwan or had a better experience somewhere else close by like Malaysia, Indonesia so on? Thanks for the advice.
Hi, I'm looking for advice from those US expats who changed their legal residence to a no income tax state prior to relocating to Thailand. I'm currently living in NY State and do not want to get hit with state tax on any future 401k withdrawals. Is there a recommended way to avoid this without physically moving to a non tax state? Thank you!
I'm a little out of the loop, can anyone give me an update?
I thought that last year Thailand made a big deal out of announcing that the visa-exempt entry would be reduced from 60 days back down to 30 days. But a bunch of friends of mine have mentioned getting a 60 day visa-exempt entry stamp this year. Not sure what to expect when I come back next month. US-passport holder here, also curious for my German friend coming later this year too.
Just starting to look into DTV as an alternative, a few questions please experts 😊;
1. Do you have to prove your soft power attendance? If medical appointment, does it have to be for a long treatments?
2. Is it muay thai training only or any gym/sports trainings are ok?
3. Specific gyms/schools/clinics or any and we just submit receipt/ask them for statement letter?
4. And for renewal do we need another medical appointment or sports sign up?
Thank you all
Anybody who had actual experience of Bangkok Bank issued the 30 day warning to continue using account?
I am unable to get to Thailand before it's frozen.
To go in person and sort it won't be till after the deadline.
Has anyone gone in and been able to close account and withdraw funds after it's been frozen Bangkok Bank Pattaya.
If so what was required, I wonder if it can be done on a tourist visa or has to be a non O to close account.
Has anyone closed and withdrawn on a visa exemption?
I will only be around a few days to empty account so don't desire to have any visa.
Unfortunately I keep failing on the apps face recognition so doing multiple swift transfers isn't an option.
Guess I'll wait n collect when I can
It's a little off topic but I guess most of us use health insurance as a part of digital nomading life.
For last 2 years I've been using Safety Wing (Vumi insurance) and I had a feeling I'm overpaying due to using third party but turns out that for circa $1500 it's very good insurance compared to buying directly from insurers like AXA, Allianz etc.
While in most cases inpatient it's decent (but still below Safety Wing), outpatient benefits are negligible basically while it's $5000 on Safety Wing policies which can cover few serious tests like MRI, PET if necessary without overnight stay in hospital.
What's your experience with global health insurances? Any reasonable offers on the market below $1000 without losing most benefits from Safety Wing? Do you read T&Cs or just buy whatever and hope for the best? 😁
