international driving license exist. I got mine issued from my country and it allows me to drive in many countries, including Thailand for 3 years.

are you sure you are living in Bangkok? do you understand that the city is huge with many centers with malls and bars everywhere. You can rent a nice place at Samrong lets say for half $250. $100 for an A/C like common that is just too much just replace it!
