I was told by local Immigration to quit bothering them years ago. They never asked at yearly extensions and now I have a LTR so will see what they say at the 5 year check. ( I go out every years so no yearly sign in ).

In Thailand, owning and operating a currency exchange business requires a license from the Minister of Finance, and all foreign exchange transactions must be conducted through authorized entities. This includes commercial banks, authorized money changers, and money transfer agents.

Elaboration:

Licensing Requirement:

Any individual or entity wishing to conduct business related to foreign exchange (including buying, selling, or exchanging foreign currencies) must obtain a license from the Minister of Finance, according to Thailand's Currency Exchange Control Act.

A couple decades we used this as my company paid Shipping Duty-Free:

Thai citizens returning home can bring back their used household and personal effects duty-free if they meet the requirements.

Requirements for Returning Thai Citizens:

They need to provide proof of residency abroad for at least a year and demonstrate that the goods were their personal property and used while abroad.

I have over the decades done it both ways. I now just do a yearly transfer for $45.00 with USAA and a transfer on Tuesday night is in my account Wednesday morning.

Thailand paid $15,000 upfront, which is $150.00 per year, for a ten year visa with multiple exit and reentry. If I depart once a year no sign in.

I have not found that the case in Thailand. They do not allow Pay Upon Death (POD) like they do in my home country.
