Had my DTV approved in 3 business days via Online application through Canberra Australia consulate. Very smooth process. If you're an Aussie, I reckon it's better to apply from home rather than a neighbouring country.

How much did it cost?

Seems in NZ the price is 2k nzd.

Very expensive but I guess over 5 yrs is affordable.

It’s a good result for you.

But I’m curious what the overall feedback for the new E-Visa system is.

I know someone who applied for a Dependant Visa & was granted a Tourist Visa.

A dependant visa is a legitimate visa category so I don’t know how they can make that mistake?

But regarding the new E-Visa system & timing;

What used to take 2-3 days in a neighbouring country now takes up to 10 business days.

That seems less efficient & will be prohibitive for many people to be staying in a hotel in Laos or KL while they wait for their visa.

I hope your experience is an indication that they are working out the new system & will be efficient in the end.

It wasn’t me.

It is a legitimate visa and unlikely a mistake with the person that I know who had all the papers they needed.

But ok they give a visa that you didn’t apply for

imagine that in Thailand

normally it's not a mistake. If the embassy doesn't offer that visa or they dont feel as though you justified it, they'll issue what they can so your application fee isn't wasted.

That's why I left Thailand, I love it so much but I never felt welcomed because staying was always a hassle. I prefer Philippines or Cambodia (where I am now). I feel like they actually want me here. I still miss Thailand but sweating visa got exhausting after 2 years of it.i still miss you Thailand!!!

phillipines is definitely easier, you can just keep paying for extensions for years and if your lucky enough to be American military the retirement visa srrv is reduced to little more than a thousand dollars versus

dollars.

In Thailand you just keep paying for extensions - until the day you die if you so choose

not like phillipines, you just go and pay with no hassle. I have houses in both countries. I much prefer visa in Philippines but I like infrastructure of Thailand. Military is a life time visa for 1500 dollars. Can't do that in Thailand. I am thinking about adding Vietnam to my list of places to live. Da nang is the next up coming place. It's beautiful there

I have no trouble extending my retirement visa in Thailand every year. I only have to show that I have transferred 65k each month into my Thai bank account. I don't know why people make hard work of it. I have homes in Australia, Thailand and Germany, and alternate between the three. Philippines for me is a good place for a short holiday, I've worked there for extended periods but could never consider living there.

I think for most is the deposited funds up front without no interest and not being able to touch it for months. For me it's easy, I just agency. Cost me less in the long run. I make 5 percent from navy federal. I just keep in CDs with large sums. It's a win win for me. And like you phillipines is great to visit but I spend more time in Thailand. But I have srrv so it really doesn't cost me anything for life time retirement. Any when I am tired of Asia I go to Italy. Have a beautiful beach home. I bought in the 80s when the dollar was 3 to 1 against the lira

I don't know why people use the 800k method, but that's what I say about people making hard work of it. I also would never pay an agent! What for? To fill in a form? I'm not that doddery and senile yet! Costs me 1900 baht per year. That is cheap for a retirement visa. And I love Bangkok. Very vibrant city, and easy to get around. Manila you have to pick your location and stay there. Took me once 90 mins to get from Aura to MOA by taxi. Ludicrous. Bangkok is my retirement base, and I can travel anywhere I want from here.

Thailand paid $15,000 upfront, which is $150.00 per year, for a ten year visa with multiple exit and reentry. If I depart once a year no sign in.

I've lived in Thailand over 15 years. Visas very simple if you tick the boxes!

if you meet the qualifications set by Thailand I find the Visa system easy.

What documentation did you need for that mate ?

I applied via workation route. Submitted work contract, letter explicitly giving me permission to work remotely, 3 fortnight's payslips, proof of balance from commbank showing over $25k(no statements provided or asked for) and drivers licence for address proof. I was only back in Aus for 2 weeks off the back of 2 month + 1 visa extension, and no probs at all

perfect mate …,cheers for that information 😀…. I’m happy for you

It's almost universally better to apply from home for the DTV. A lot of reports of the immigration officers asking people why they applied from XXX instead of from their home country. They are starting to look at DTV with a more critical eye.

@Brandon ***********
for sure it's much better for any visa

I read stories of the same, that's why I decided to pay a bit extra and fly back to Aus for a couple weeks. Didn't expect 3 day approval time though given songkraan and Easter, stoked as!
