Get it in the UK. We just moved funds from our joint account into 2 separate accounts and got a statement each to use. Police record requirement is handled centrally (I think it was Sussex Police from memory).
Not sure that is right. Thought you can enter anytime within 3 months of visa issue, and then your six month starts at the point of entry. May well be wrong though.
We got 1 year multi-entry visas in London based on money in UK bank accounts, and then only needed the money in a Thai account (for my wife) for future extensions.
My wife (German passport) and I (British Passport) both have 1 year extensions, based on a visa originally issued in London. Mine is based on income, and wife's is based on the 800K in a Thai bank account.
Phuket took us less than 30 mins with British IDP, medical certificate (200 Baht from local doctor), residence certificate from immigration (300 THB). Braking reaction test, and colour test and that was it. Photo and driving license printed out there and then.
If you over 50 go the retirement route; it makes life so much easier. Come and go as much as you want, no questions at the border/airport. Just have to be here once a year to get an extension after the first 2 years (or just under).
