We regularly visit the in laws in Thailand and I understand that I can "convert" my U.K. driving licence to a Thai licence. Any idea how I go about it ? what's required ? how long does the licence last ?
Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
To convert your UK driving licence to a Thai licence, you'll need several documents: your UK licence, an International Driving Permit (IDP), a Medical Certificate, a Certificate of Residence, a copy of your passport ID, your visa, and the entry stamp page. The initial Thai licence lasts for 2 years, and subsequent ones for 5 years. The process typically includes a braking reaction test and a color vision test. The time taken can vary; for example, in Phuket, it took less than 30 minutes.
Phuket took us less than 30 mins with British IDP, medical certificate (200 Baht from local doctor), residence certificate from immigration (300 THB). Braking reaction test, and colour test and that was it. Photo and driving license printed out there and then.
First time it last 2 years, after that 5 years. You need your UK licence, International Driving Permit, Medical Certificate, Certificate of Residence, copy passport ID, Visa and entry stamp page. You can visit Ministry of Transport in your area.
And this certificate of residence can be easily obtained? i reafd somewhere police stations can issue them - is this so or do you have to attend an immigration office?
