Check once if she can get a different visa type as a dependant of you. For a wife you also do not need the full deposit.

I have a Swiss passport which I renewed in Switzerland. The visa pages in the old passport were not "holed". I entered TH with both passports. Back in TH I went to immigration to transfer the visa. Easy.
