Hello

I unfortunately think that I know the answer but I'm asking anyway just in case.

I have to leave Thailand for a family emergency. I might come back after my visa expires (non O im retirement).

Is there something I can do ?

Could immigration grant a delay if I can justify of a very good reason ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on whether they can extend their Non-O retirement visa expiration due to a family emergency that requires them to leave Thailand. Commenters clarify that if the visa or entry stamp expires while the user is outside of Thailand, they cannot extend or delay the visa. Alternatives suggested include obtaining a re-entry permit if leaving the country, applying for a new Non-O visa if returning after expiration, or seeking a family-based extension if they have legal relatives in Thailand.

Either get an extension of stay before leaving and a re-entry permit. Or, if you have legal Thai family, get a 60 day extension of stay based on family, and a re-entry permit.

You can renew the visa 45 days in advance.

with good reasoning, Jomtien Pattaya Immigration will accept the one year extension Application 45 to 60 days in advance. Simply Ask them.

If you will be back in Thailand AFTER the current entry or extension stamp expires, no, there is nothing you can do with it. Your visa/extension will be gone as of the day it expires, even if you have a re-entry permit.

In case you are staying INSIDE Thailand from the day it expires until applying for the next extension, you may be able to apply for an extension by paying an overstay fine if it's not too long. But not when you are outside Thailand when the stamp expires.

The easiest is applying for a new single-entry Non-O based on being over 50/retirement during your stay there before you fly back to Thailand, then apply for an extension when you are back in Thailand with a new Non-O for a 90-day entry stamp.

if he already has a non O extension then he must have a bank account. So another option is to enter visa exempt and get the non-O issued in Thailand for ฿2000. Then extend off that.

if it's going to be after your Non-O extension expires and you have time get the 90 day Non-O visa from the thai consulate online before you come back, then you'll get 90 days when you enter and just have to go for the extension 2 months later 🙂

Cuts a few steps out of the "show up free stamp and start from zero" process

depending on what method op uses to meet financial requirements, but proving international transfers for funds could be an issue to apply for an in-country initial visa if he wants to use 800k baht banked money method.
