@Kim ********
When immigration is very far away, you (sometimes) also can register at police and/or tourist police.

@Stephen *******
Oh, nice indeed. That should be possible for everyone I think. Especially if you already don't have to buy food.

Think those thoughts slip to the mind of us elderly.

Well, no experience yet fortunately, and also my thoughts cannot be for "whole Thailand" but it's also a question "what do you need". I think/hope y'r partner would take care of some basic things, like cooking, cleaning (house), washing etc. and maybe even go to immigration when needed. If that is difficult because e.g. partner is working, then I would ask someone to do those basic things. Think you can have someone for a couple of hours per day for 300-500฿ a day ? So then there is some money involved per month (about 12,000-14,000฿ a month ? Depending where you live, this is already a nice salary for many who e.g. work in a factory). But....you have to be able to afford it of course. And, as already mentioned, there are elderly/ nursery homes but they cost a lot and not so many of us can pay that.

If you are getting mental issues, then it's getting serious. I think, if there is a bit of 'thinking' left, I would not like to live anymore, but euthanasia is officially not allowed over here. So that part I don't know how I would handle that.

Those are just my thoughts a bit. But you never really know how you react when the problem is really there.

Ofcourse as already mentioned 'money talks' so if you have enough, the problems most of the time, are a bit more easy.

So far, the treaty between the Netherlands and Thailand, gives the oportunity, to pay tax only in Thailand and then you don't have to pay tax in the Netherlands anymore. Which is a lot more favorable. In the Netherlands you can prove that you have paid tax in Thailand by a form RO22, which you can get at a revenue office in Thailand after paying.

@Michael ******
Also always look if there is a treaty to avoid double taxation. It's not clear yet, if people are taxed in their home country, how they must prove that to the Thai tax office.

Michael White If you mean 120k฿ a month, then it's getting serious, ha ha. See spreadsheet. (137,500฿ a year)
Peter ****************
@Michael ******
Umm, you mean a total of 620k฿ a year ? If so, it's only 5% of that 120k฿ more. So 6,000฿.

@Michael ******
(Dan Meikle is also right. Government pension many times is taxed at the source (home country)). For now the tax is only for the money you transfer to Thailand. Already made a spreadsheet long time ago.

Yep, but also 100k฿ deductable for everybody, and if you are 65-plus, an extra deduction of 190k฿. So 65-plus and not maried, its 100k + 60k + 190k + first tranch 150k deductable. This results that the first 500k฿ = 0%.
