won, which was about $65 USD. My Thai wife was with me. We went one day, filled out the paperwork and pick the visa up the next day. Retired, came to Thailand and got my retirement visa in January 2016. Piece of cake. No drama.

You say you are going to a pool tournament and don't have time. What is more important, pool, or being able to come and go with no hassles?

Why not just "TAKE" the time to do it properly and you will have no issues. People trying to get over on the rules makes it a problem for people that follow them. Not rocket science.

I know it has gotten more difficult to open an account, but would suggest Kasikorn. Ask for the manager. You will normally have better luck with him than a clerk. Dress neat and tell him you planning to retire here next year. I think you might get it done. Let us know. Ask the requirements if he gives you a hard time. Might try a little "coffee" money for him if he doesn't budge. Good luck.

You might be surprised at what a little "coffee" money does to get things done exponentially in Thailand. Also, researching and finding out the correct info rather than waiting until the last minute always seems to help, regardless of where you are. Also, as Cliff Sussman stated, act and dress as a serious customer and you might be amazed by the results you see. Thailand, like most undeveloped countries, operates on the theory that most offices expect to be given a bit for coffee just for doing their job. I have lived in Asia for 50 years, and take it to the bank, it is the same in all the undeveloped ones I have lived in. Works wonders!!
