Hi everyone, I'm new to the group. I have been in and out of Thailand for many years and even held a retirement visa until covid but it lapsed (My own fault).

I arrived back in Thailand from Philippines recently after going in and out on 2 other occasions and immigration at the airport weren't going to let me back in as they told me I had been here for 141 days already. They allowed me in on the condition that I will get another retirement visa before I attempt to come back to the kingdom.

I am leaving to india for a pool tournament on the 30th of August therefore I don't have time to get the retirement visa done.

I am due to come back here on 16th September.

An agent told me I can apply for a 60 day tourist visa online while I'm out of the country, can anyone shed some light on my situation please. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shares their experience of attempting to return to Thailand after their retirement visa lapsed. They are considering applying for a 60-day tourist visa while in India before returning to Thailand on September 16, but they have doubts about the feasibility of applying online. Community comments point out that the Thai embassy in India requires in-person applications for a tourist visa, and express concerns about the user's entry eligibility based on their immigration history and nationality.

Why not just "TAKE" the time to do it properly and you will have no issues. People trying to get over on the rules makes it a problem for people that follow them. Not rocket science.

You still have a week in Thailand. Can contact an agent.

You say you are going to a pool tournament and don't have time. What is more important, pool, or being able to come and go with no hassles?

I would say you, as a non Indian national, have no chance of getting a Thai visa in India

You are supposed to apply for the touristvisa from the country where you are residing ( having permanent address, and arrive from the same country to activate it.

In the “How to apply“ section of the visapages from several Thai Embassy’s, you will find this or similar:

“Should be applyed for in the country you are residing.

This info can be found at several Thai Embassy websites in the visa section:

“WHO CAN APPLY FOR E-VISA WITH THE ROYAL THAI EMBASSY

Residents of xxxxx who currently residing in these countries may apply for e-visa with the Royal Thai Embassy in xxxxx through
****************************
. Proof of residency are required.

Those currently residing in other countries should contact the Royal Thai Embassy in their respective countries.

Nationals of xxxxx who are currently traveling in Thailand cannot apply for e-visa with the Royal Thai Embassy in xxxxx through

thaievisa.go.th/.

They must contact the Thai Immigration Bureau for visa matters.

Nationals of xxxxx who are currently traveling in other countries and wish to travel to Thailand cannot apply for e-visa with the Royal Thai Embassy in xxxxx. They may either enter Thailand under 30-day tourist visa exemption scheme or contact the Royal Thai Embassy in the countries they are traveling in if they wish to stay in Thailand for longer than the tourist visa exemption scheme allowed. If they wish to apply with the Royal Thai Embassy in xxxxx, those nationals of xxxxx must first return to their respective countries before applying.”

That residency rule is only true for the multi-entry tourist visa and you can activate any visa at any border entry not departing from the country of issue

Let's say you do get a tourist visa in India (at the embassy per other comments), it's still up to the descretion of the Immigration Officer to let you in and with your history, there is no guarantee. Also, consider not entering via Bangkok - not sure how Phuket Airport is these days, but Chiang Mai still has a reputation for being more relaxed in these cases.

You can't apply for a tourist visa online because the Thai embassy in India does not utilize the evisa system. They only accept in person applications submitted at the embassy.

The only way to apply online is to be in a country where the Thai embassy uses the evisa system.

As part of your application you're required to show your plane ticket from the country you're applying from to Thailand, as well as all pages of your passport from with any stamp from the previous 1-2 years. Both of these are to ensure you're in the country you are claiming to be in.

India does not participate in the Thailand evisa system.

so I can apply online in India or I have to physically go to the embassy in india?

@Mark ******
Your Indian entry stamp will clue them in. Also the fact that you don't have a flight from the UK to Thailand to show them.

E-visa did not change the rules for how you apply for a visa. You apply for a visa through the Thai embassy in the country you are physically in. The ONLY thing e-visa changed was the fact that you submit your application online now, instead of through the mail with your passport. Everything else is still the same.
