There are international agreements and protocols concerning adoption. You can try to foster them, but be careful because trafficking is widespread and not punished lightly. There are special lawyers to help you in Thailand.
If you can afford to live in a place without a kitchen or washingmachine, maybe you can look at it from the cook or cleaners point of view. They like to have a job, and you give them a chance to make a living.
There is a guy in Rayong who helpen another American lady with the same route you are wanting to go. Maybe he can put you in contact with her and advise an agent etc...
I know, I love Phuket too. Especially Yanui and Phuket Town. I did not mean do not come to the island but more don't get stuck in the Bangkok Chiang Mai Pattaya Phuket circle with the Bangla road, Patpong, Soi Cowboy, Walkingstreet crowd. He did not mention Phuket and Pattaya in the same sentence because he had been given some cultural or typical bikefriendly advise I think.
We come across very very many honest and friendly people in Thailand. Just forget Pattaya, Phuket etc. Why go where all the tourists go when you already see how beautiful Thailand is outside the redlightdistricts? Go to Koh Chang, Chantaburi, Thai Meuang, bike along the Mekong or via Tak to Kanchanaburi. By the way, tourists coming to the UK find nice and honest locals too 😉
