In my case at the Chiang Mai office recently, the time between being issued the under consideration slip and the date to return to get the 90-day stamp is 3 weeks.
I believe this varies depending on location, in most cases 2 weeks if quiet and 3 if busy...........
They have been a convenience to many who have used Covid extensions continually for two years in order to stay long term with no intention of leaving or who don't meet the appropriate long stay visa criteria...
If you leave, you will need to re enter before 3rd August 2022, however I do understand you will need the required insurance for another year also, meaning they will stamp you in until the end day of your accompanying insurance cover....
Extending the OA without leaving, you may have to buy the
******
inpatient/outpatient insurance, which for now still remains inexpensive, likely to be far less than the cost of return airfares and insurances.....
Advice would be to get the appropriate long stay visa.
Maybe the authorities aren't buying the excuse of needing continued covid extensions given people can return home and in most those who continue to apply for them have simply replaced their border runs with until now an easier option
Think they're aware of the people who have been here for years on "tourist" visas, the ones during normal times, who have frequently done border runs as a means to continue their stay. For them, covid extensions have been a bonus and about to end, given travel to most places can happen now........For the few genuinely stuck abroad, you have my sympathy, for others milking the system, get the correct visa in order to stay.................
