They're talking bullsh*t. I had 2 stents fitted and have no problem getting long term health insurance for Thailand. It's not cheap but easily accessible from most Insurance companies in the UK.

Just take each 6 months as they come. It's pretty easy to stay in Thailand for 180 days without tying up your money.
