To get to the full year, you are looking at one Single entry tourist visa, that would bring you up to 359 days with extension. Get the visa in Vientiane.

1) yes you have a stamped visa in your passport, so ticket out will not be needed. 2) yes get an METV, at least it will give you close to 270 days in country, you still need to do a border run either once every 60 days, or once every 90 days depending on if you extend or not. Just make sure you make the last entry on the METV just before the use before date, that way you maximize the visa to 269 days

fly out then get a visa. You want to stay until september, have to leave 20-6 just flying in/out will only get you until about 19-8 with extension, whilst a visa will get you past that date if you extend.

In theory you could indeed not extend, in which case you will pay 1500 or 2000 baht depending on 3 or 4 days overstay, however if you happen to run into a police ID check you could potentially be looking at a five year ban from entering the country if such a check takes place whilst you are on overstay.
